Where do you start?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your own backyard. Who knows what is buried on your property? It is a great opportunity to learn how to use your new detector. Learn how to properly dig holes that won\u2019t kill the grass.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many detectorists bury items so they can learn how their detectors respond to each item. These items are good to start with in your buried training zone:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A penny (new &amp; older than 1982)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nickel<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A dime (newer &amp; silver &#8211; before 1965)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A quarter (newer &amp; silver &#8211; before 1965)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A half dollar (newer &amp; silver &#8211; before 1965)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A silver ring<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A gold ring<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practice in this test area many times. Learn the sounds and the numbers your detector is displaying. Every time you get a new detector head to your practice area again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, ask friends &amp; family if you can detect their properties. Head to the beach. Learn the rules &amp; laws in your area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research for areas of activity long ago. Are there any rumors or legends of lost treasure?
